Vinted Tax Accountants for UK Sellers
If Vinted has asked you for your National Insurance number, address, or date of birth, it’s because the platform now reports your sales to HMRC. That doesn’t automatically mean you owe tax, but it does mean HMRC can see what you’re selling.
We’re specialist Vinted tax accountants who help UK sellers work out exactly where they stand, file the right returns, and avoid penalties.
Whether you’re a casual seller who’s gone over the threshold by accident or running Vinted as a proper side business, we’ll sort your tax position quickly and stress free.
What our Vinted tax accountants do for you
Selling on Vinted sounds simple until HMRC gets involved. We handle the tax side from start to finish so you can keep selling without worrying about whether you’ve crossed a line. Here’s what we cover:
Self assessment registration and filing
If your Vinted sales mean you need to register with HMRC, we’ll handle the full process. We get you set up for self assessment, prepare your return, and file it on time so you never miss a deadline.
Trading allowance and tax position review
We’ll work out whether you actually need to pay tax, how much of the £1,000 trading allowance you can use, and which expenses you can claim against your profit. Most sellers pay less than they think once we’ve reviewed the numbers properly.
Multi platform income consolidation
If you sell on Vinted alongside eBay, Depop, Etsy, or Amazon, your gross income is added together for tax purposes. We bring it all into one place, calculate your total trading income, and make sure nothing gets missed.
HMRC letter and enquiry support
Had a letter from HMRC about your online selling? Don’t ignore it. We’ll respond on your behalf, explain your position to HMRC, and protect you from unnecessary penalties or estimated assessments.
Bookkeeping for Vinted sellers
Keeping track of sales, postage costs, packaging, and Vinted fees gets messy fast. We set you up with simple bookkeeping that records everything you need for your tax return and keeps you ready for HMRC if they ever ask.
Making Tax Digital readiness
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is rolling out and will affect sole traders earning over the threshold. We’ll get your records and software in place so you’re compliant from day one.
Why a Vinted tax accountant is different to a regular accountant
Most high street accountants have never had to work out the tax position of someone selling vintage trainers across three platforms. We have.
We understand how Vinted payouts work, how the trading allowance interacts with multi platform income, and what HMRC is actually looking for when they cross check platform data against tax returns. We know the difference between selling your own wardrobe and running a trading business, and we’ll position you correctly so you’re not paying more tax than you need to.
We also know how scary an HMRC letter feels when you weren’t expecting one. We deal with these every week. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about and nothing we haven’t seen before.

Specialist Vinted tax help, no jargon, no judgement
We’re ecommerce accountants by background, which means we’ve been helping online sellers stay compliant long before Vinted started reporting to HMRC.
Our team understands the platforms, the rules, and the practical reality of running a side hustle that’s quietly grown into something bigger.
We work on transparent fixed monthly fees so you always know what you’re paying. We respond quickly, explain things in plain English, and treat you like a person rather than a tax case.
Whether you’ve sold ten items or ten thousand, we’ll meet you where you are and get your tax sorted.
How we work with Vinted sellers
We’ve made the process as simple as possible. No long onboarding, no piles of paperwork. Just a clear path from worried to sorted.
Free initial chat
Book a quick, no obligation call. Tell us what you’ve been selling, how long for, and whether you’ve had anything from HMRC. We’ll let you know straight away whether you need to do something or whether you’re already in the clear.
Review of your selling activity
We pull together your Vinted sales, any other platform income, and your costs. From there we work out whether you’re trading in HMRC’s eyes and what your actual tax position is.
Register and file if needed
If you need to be on self assessment, we handle the registration with HMRC and prepare your return. You sign it off, we file it, and you’re done. We’ll also flag anything you should do differently going forward.
Ongoing support
Once you’re set up, we keep things ticking over. Annual returns, bookkeeping, advice when you need it, and a quick response whenever you have a question. No need to chase us.
Real outcomes for real Vinted sellers
We’ve helped hundreds of UK online sellers across Vinted, eBay, Depop, Etsy, and Shopify get their tax position right.
Some came to us in a panic after receiving a Vinted notification asking for their National Insurance number. Others arrived already mid HMRC enquiry. Most just wanted to do the right thing before things escalated.
In every case the outcome is the same. A clear picture of what’s owed, a properly filed return, and no more late night Googling at 2am wondering if you’re about to get fined.
What we help sellers avoid
The most common problems we fix are sellers who didn’t realise gross sales (not profit) trigger the £1,000 trading allowance, sellers who assumed Vinted not asking for their NI number meant they were under the radar, and sellers who tried to file their own return and missed deductible expenses.
Left alone, these mistakes lead to £100 late filing fines, daily £10 penalties after three months, late payment interest at over 7%, and in the worst cases estimated assessments where HMRC just decides what you owe.
We catch these issues early and prevent them turning into something bigger.
Simple, fair pricing for Vinted sellers
We don’t believe in hidden fees or surprise invoices. Our Vinted tax accountant service runs on transparent fixed pricing so you know exactly what you’re paying each month.
Casual sellers who only need an annual self assessment can use our one off filing service, while sellers running Vinted as a proper side business benefit from our monthly ecommerce accountant package, which includes bookkeeping, advice, and your annual return all in one. Vinted tax accountant FAQs
Do I need to pay tax on Vinted sales?
Only if you’re trading. Selling your own personal belongings, even regularly, isn’t trading and isn’t taxable. If you’re buying items specifically to resell, making things to sell, or running it like a business, you’re trading and you need to declare it once your gross income goes over £1,000 in a tax year.
Why has Vinted asked me for my National Insurance number?
From January 2025, Vinted has been required to report seller data to HMRC once you hit 30 sales or roughly £1,700 in a year. The NI number request is part of that reporting process. It doesn’t automatically mean you owe tax, but it does mean HMRC will have visibility of your account.
What is the £1,000 trading allowance?
Every UK adult can earn up to £1,000 in gross trading income per tax year without declaring it or paying tax. Go over that and you’ll need to register for self assessment. The £1,000 figure is total sales across all platforms, not profit, which is something a lot of sellers get wrong.
I sell on Vinted and eBay, how does that work?
Your gross income from every platform gets added together for the £1,000 threshold. So £600 from Vinted plus £500 from eBay puts you over the limit even though neither platform on its own would. We help you bring it all into one tidy figure for your tax return.
What happens if I haven't declared my Vinted income?
The cleanest move is to come forward voluntarily. HMRC treats people who self correct far more leniently than those they have to chase. We’ll help you work out what should have been declared, prepare the relevant returns, and submit everything properly. Penalties are usually much smaller than people fear.
How much does a Vinted tax accountant cost?
It depends on what you need. A one off self assessment return for a casual seller is fairly inexpensive. Ongoing monthly support including bookkeeping costs more but covers everything year round. We’ll quote you a fixed fee based on your situation so there are no surprises.
Can you help if I've already received a letter from HMRC?
Yes. We deal with HMRC enquiries regularly. We’ll review what they’ve sent, respond on your behalf, and work out the cleanest way to resolve things. Don’t ignore the letter, things get worse the longer you leave it, but don’t panic either. It’s almost always fixable.
Do I need to pay tax if I'm just selling my old clothes?
No. Selling your own second hand belongings, even if you sell hundreds of items, isn’t taxable. HMRC calls this personal disposal rather than trading. The line gets crossed when you start buying items specifically to resell or making things for profit.
